More About Kyla

Kyla Aguirre White Owl is a Cultural Advisor, Community Engagement Specialist, and Artist dedicated to advancing Indigenous sovereignty, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering meaningful partnerships. A citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, she combines lived experience with academic expertise to deliver strategies that honor tradition while navigating contemporary challenges.

Kyla holds a Master of Legal Studies in Indigenous Peoples Law from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Sustainability Studies from Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she graduated Cum Laude. Her academic foundation is paired with extensive experience in cultural consulting, legal research, and community engagement.

She has contributed to projects with museums, universities, and tribal governments, including repatriation efforts, risk assessments, and policy consultations. Her work has supported institutions such as the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and has informed national conversations on cultural heritage through NAGPRA and related frameworks.

Beyond consulting, Kyla has organized Powwows, Indigenous Women in Leadership panels, and cultural awareness initiatives, reflecting her dedication to uplifting Indigenous voices. She has also engaged in advocacy on critical issues such as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) and represented youth leadership at the Cities Summit of the Americas.

As both a strategist and an artist, Kyla uses multiple forms of expression to safeguard culture, empower communities, and reimagine futures where Indigenous nations are not only protected but thrive. Her consulting practice, speaking engagements, and artwork all serve one mission: to strengthen sovereignty, preserve heritage, and help build a world where Indigenous peoples stand invincible against external threats.
